Looking for Pumpkins?

Written by August | Oct 19, 2023 2:58:47 PM

It's officially pumpkin season! Pumpkins make the perfect fall decor, and who doesn't love carving/painting them for Halloween fun? However, with the South Carolina heat, you almost have to wait until later on in the season to run out and grab those pumpkins, or you'll end up with a rotten mess (yuck). But now that temperatures are starting to cool down and Halloween is right around the corner, it is full steam ahead for pumpkin patches.

Below is a list of some of our area's different local pumpkin patches. However, I did want to mention that buying multiple pumpkins at the patch can be quite expensive, so before you go, consider what you're looking to get out of the experience.

On the one hand, visiting your local pumpkin patch is an experience; you can take pictures, get to see all of the pumpkins laid out, and pick your favorite, and the money for your pumpkin typically goes back to the church or organization selling them, keeping things local. However, local pumpkin patches can be expensive, especially if you plan to buy more than one pumpkin.

On the other hand, many local grocery stores also sell pumpkins at a cheaper price point. Although you won't get the pumpkin patch experience, you may save a little money and will still get to make memories of decorating, carving, and painting with your family.

So, do what feels right for you, but whatever you do, enjoy those pumpkins!

Farm Fun and Patches

THOMPSONS FARM & NURSERY

Not only do they have a great selection of pumpkins to choose from, but they also have lots of other fall décor and events like Drive-In Halloween Movies and a Helicopter Candy Drop. Because of this, there is an admission price, so be sure to check out their full events schedule online and purchase tickets ahead of time.

SOUTHERN PALMETTO FARMS

This is another fantastic fall farm with a corn maze, slides, animals, wagon rides and of course, a fantastic pumpkin patch. In addition to all the fall fun, they also have spooky Fright Nights on Fridays and Saturdays. Because of this, there is an admission price, so be sure to check out their full events schedule online and purchase tickets ahead of time.

INDIGO FARMS MARKET

The farm opens its pumpkin patch each Saturday during October. In addition to their pumpkins, they also have a great variety of farm-grown fall vegetables, as well as fresh brewed apple cider. Check out the Living Local Carolina segment at Indigo Farms a few years back.
